Nature has a funny way of revealing to us God and his character. In fact, if God had so chosen, he could have never sent his son Jesus in the first place and we would all still be accountable “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.” Romans 1:20. Without excuse, but thank God he did send his son Jesus to die for us to give us new life, so that we don’t have to do anything but believe. Take a look at reptiles for instance. Snakes and certain kinds of lizards shed their skin and new fresh skin appears underneath.
This is a good picture from nature of what it is like when we become a new creation in Christ. “When you came to Christ you were circumcised but not by physical procedure. It was a spiritual procedure, the cutting away of your sinful nature. For you were buried with Christ when you were baptized and with him you were raised to new life because you trusted the mighty power of God who raised Christ from the dead.” Colossians 2:10-12. I want you to picture this with me for a moment. You are sitting before God and he has a scalpel or sharp knife in his hand. He is cutting away your sinful nature, he is shedding your skin! When you believed in Him he spiritually begins to cut away at our hearts and minds to rid us of our sinful past. Sometimes he has to cut deep to get us to realize something we are doing wrong or something he is trying to get our attention on. You know when you are cutting a steak and sometimes a few strands just don’t want to be cut away. I also picture us with God in that situation as well. What is it that we are holding on to that God is trying to cut away? What is it that we try so hard to keep that if we would just let Christ have, he would give us something so much better? Try and remember the next time Christ is trying to cut away at you that he has something better for you. Yes it may be painful at the time but what is right around the corner is so much better.
Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, plans to prosper you, to give you a hope and a future.” Let’s together begin to trust God more with our lives. He has such a better plan than we could ever conceive on our own. Let’s also remember when we begin to doubt that God in his very creation has shown us himself. “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge. There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard. Their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world. In the heavens he has pitched a tent for the sun, which is like a bridegroom coming forth from his pavilion, like a champion rejoicing to run his course. It rises at one end of the heavens and makes its circuit to the other; nothing is hidden from its heat” Psalm 19:1-6
